Transportation Routes

US highway 1-8 road is a mere 10 minutes from the commercial border crossing. Connected via railroad to both the US and the interior of Mexico. The ports of San Pedro/Long Beach, San Diego and Ensenada are all within a 4 hour drive. Currently, 6 Commercial airports as well as many other private airports including Mexicali’s International airport are located within 2 hours from the city.

Highways

Mexicali Valley is the closest connection point in Baja California to the rest of the country. Federal Highway 2 can take you from Mexicali to Tijuana (to the west) and all the way to Mexico City (east, then south). This Federal Highway can connect you to the entire Mexican highway network and take you to every city in the country.

Mexicali connects with Calexico through two of its three border crossings (tourist and commercial). Highway 97 and 111 intersects with Highway 8 in 5-10 minutes drive, which runs across the USA from west to east (connecting to highway 10). Highway 10 is connected to other highways that can lead you to any city in the USA and Canada.

Rail Roads

Ferromex is a private railroad company that provides rail services to Mexicali. This company is made up by a Joint Venture with the American railroad company, Union Pacific. In other words, when the train crosses the border from Calexico to Mexicali and vice versa, the cargo remains in the same company.

Once on the Mexican side of the border, the cargo can be moved from Mexicali to any city in the country, for instance Guadalajara, Monterrey or Mexico City, to mention a few.
